And more!
The weekend before last, I attended the Ashe County Piecemakers‘ Quilt Show in West Jefferson. I don’t know the etiquette on photographing quilts at shows, but I don’t use my flash (because of fading) and I don’t copy anybody’s design. These two were simply snapped for inspiration. One was chosen because it’s a landscape quilt with lots of sparkle, the kind I would like to produce. The other gave me a layout idea for a crib quilt for PJ!

Gathering Inspiration
I spent the weekend in Charleston, SC, being Nana the Nanny for my daughter and son-in-law who attended a wedding. In addition to having a wonderful time with my family, I took some photos to add to my Charleston collection.

Cooking as Craft
I consider cooking a craft that I enjoy occasionally! This is a red, white and blue cobbler that I made for Labor Day! I call it that because I used blueberries and strawberries.
The recipe was featured on the cover of Southern Living a summer or so ago. They used blackberries.
It is super easy:
4 cups of fruit
1 cup plain flour
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
6 Tbs. (3/4 stick) butter
Pour fruit into a 8×8 square baking dish. In a separate bowl, combine flour, sugar and the egg. Stir together (I use a large fork) until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Sprinkle on top of fruit.
Melt the butter (I use a pyrex mixing cup, it makes pouring easier–I cover it with wax paper and microwave on high 1 min.) Pour over crust mixture. Bake in a preheated 375F oven for 30 minutes or until brown and crispy. Don’t forget to heap on some vanilla ice cream while it’s still warm!

Caps for Peter James
I know I knit at least 12 caps for PJ before he was born. Here he is later on the night he was born wearing the first cap I knit before I knew if he was going to be a boy or girl. That’s his grandpa holding him.

I Finally Finished Mama’s Bible Cover!
I have been babysitting my grandson, PJ (Peter James) so I’ve only managed a little crafting.
However, I did get Mama’s Bible cover done in time for her birthday (Aug. 26.) My dad died in 2002 and Mama had been carrying the Bible he was given for attending Sunday School for 13 years without missing a Sunday! The old cover was ragged and worn, and Mama put it up, fearing it would be ruined. The cover I made her is for that Bible.
She carried it last Sunday and the ladies in her Sunday School class loved it!

Here’s the reason!!!!
I’ve not been blogging in over 8 months! I’m babysitting this little fellow, born 2/17/10. He was born at home and weighed 9 lbs. even! I’m very proud to be his Nana!

Wreath Restoration
Here’s a craft I worked on over Christmas. My mom had made this grapevine and holly wreath for me several years ago. Because I hang it on a sunny side of the house, the ribbon and holly berries were terribly faded.
I really like this wreath, so I set out to restore it. I took all the plastic berries off, (the leaves were still in pretty good shape,) and sprayed them with red spray paint for plastic. It took several sprays from different angles to cover the round surfaces of the berries.
I covered the old faded ribbon with new red grosgrain, cut the old away, and replaced the berries. I am very pleased with the results!
