My First Crazy Quilt!
Funny, huh? It’s an eyeglass case. Like my paper piecing, I start small. I’ve recently completed it and will post a photo soon.

What I learned about beading on velveteen
1. The beads sit on top of the nap, so there’s lots of wiggle in the design.
2. You can’t use tweezers to remove the waste canvas because it’s too easy to pluck out the pile from the velveteen. It looks moth eaten.
I’ll be salvaging these beads after I make this post.

Cross stitching with beads on waste canvas
This didn’t scan too well, either, but I’m pretty pleased with it. I tacked a piece of waste canvas on this scrap of what looks like dupioni silk. Then I followed a cross stitch pattern with seed beads. The fabric is actually an antique gold, and I didn’t have much of a selection of bead colors, so it looks like Christmas. I enjoyed the stitching and pulling the threads out of the waste canvas, too. I’ll be trying this on velveteen, soon.

I left the backing on this image to give stability while I added beads. I’ll leave it on until I sew something to the left side as I didn’t leave much of a seam allowance.

My Latest Experiment!
I wish I could show you how delicate this came out, the scan just doesn’t show it. I bought sheets of crepe de chine from Dharma Trading. I downloaded free images from antiqueclipart.com and printed them. I didn’t think I’d ever get the backing off the fabric, but oooh when I did. I’m very excited. Something worked for once! Now I have reproduction antique silks to use in my crazy quilting.

Organization idea for my fabric stash
I’m turning my grown daughter’s room into a sewing/guest room. I was wishing for a way to organize my fabric stash so that it could be both seen and protected. This is what I came up with. I ordered two clear “flip-flop organizers” for my smaller scraps. I sorted the scraps by color and placed them in gallon zip-top storage bags. I stuffed the bags in the holders for the flip flops and hung them in the closet. For larger pieces of fabric, I ordered a “gift bag organizer.” It has small pockets in the top that I plan to use for notions and/or patterns. I plan to wrap fabric yardage around pasteboard and stow it in the the larger pouches toward the bottom.
All three items came from Target by way of amazon.com. So far, I’m pretty pleased with my new system!

I love my new mold!
I think it is perfect for casting soaps that look like carved coral, ivory, or jade. The coral one is scented with “fresh peach,” and the ivory one is “magnolia” scented.
