In search of a shed…

In search of a shed…
In search of a shed…

The hubs says if we move back permanently from Charlotte to Millers Creek, we’ll need a shed to store some of our extra furnishings.

My sister-in-law, Pamela McLean, has a lovely studio she designed from a shed. In fact, I should visit, photograph and write about her and her studio sometime!

In the meantime, I’m thinking why can’t a shed be storage, now, and studio space, later?

I bought the current issue of Where Women Create mainly because of this:

and this

As you can see, the first photo shows the shed of the artist, Barbara Morrison. I love the “little schoolhouse” look of it!

The second studio belongs to Mary Jhun, the featured artist in this issue:

I love the window’s in Mary’s studio:

The storage underneath appears to be on castors, which seems smart.

In my art space upstairs in Charlotte,

I have two heavy display tables on casters. I bought them when JC Penney closed. If I ever get that space under control, again, I’ll share them.

Inside Barbara’s studio, the shelves on the right remind me that you can put little shallow shelves between studs.

I am fortunate to have a former student, Matthew Settle, who lives nearby and builds custom sheds. Look at his recent greenhouse/potting shed:

I think the inside space would be great for art and crafting, too, but I’m afraid I’d fry like a potato!

You can find Matthew at Upscale Structures on Facebook Marketplace and in N. Wilkesboro, NC.

The search for a shed marches forward!

Useful Trash

Useful Trash

It’s an oxymoron, right? My recent shower head purchase came with some useful packaging.

Look at that teeny tiny box that held the plumber’s tape! The main container is nice and sturdy with a hinged lid. It’ll bee great for storage! Maybe, I’ll cover it with gel prints!

I have no idea why that piece of cardboard is shaped like a cutting board, but it should make an unusual sign or collage backing.

There are two big sheets of tissue for gel plating or stamping. Even the strangely shaped pressed paper liner has a sculptural quality!

And oh! Here’s the little spool from the plumber’s tape. It can be used for mark making on the gel plate or in polymer clay. I can even wrap leftover threads or cords around it!

My husband has learned to ask, “Is it for art, honey, or can I throw it away?“

An Ink Box

An Ink Box

Buying storage seems crazy when you have lots of boxes and lots of paper and paint.

The “paper“ I covered my box with is self-adhesive vinyl, found on Clearance at Hobby Lobby for 62¢/sheet. It took less than two.

I needed ink storage. I ’m not as careful and thorough as I once was, but, “Ta Da!”

(Washi tape is not sticky enough.)

Hello, Blog!

Hello, Blog!

I have been doing lots of crafting, but no blogging, It’s time to get back to it! Here’s an update on Mama’s House: A friend of my husband’s did some work for us that included hanging some shelves and organizers at Mama’s house. These are RIBBA picture ledges from IKEA. They are now called MOSSLANDA for some reason, but are great for storing little seed bead containers and small bottles of patina and nail polish. These are beside the china cabinet in the dining/classroom.Ikea shelves

This magazine rack in the den is from Hobby Lobby. I’ve been waiting to put it up so long, it was covered in spider webs.Magazine rack
These are old dresser drawers that I had stained inside. They’re on a wall in the bedroom I’m using for scrapbooking and sewing. The friend hung my Fons&Porter design wall, too. I’ll photograph it, again, when I have a “design” on it. dresser drawers
